Testimonials
“For years I assumed that the most important things I learned in dance class were things like technique, musicality, performance skills, strength, and flexibility. It wasn’t until years later, looking back, that I realized how much I underestimated the importance of every minute I spent in the studio with Marie. With a gently firm and well-practiced hand, she has shaped the person I have become.
Through her I learned the importance of hard work, perseverance, confidence, and patience – skills I have used throughout my chosen career path in Medicine. Throughout my training I was complimented on my maturity, my ability to multitask and my strength of focus. Again, these are all skills that began in the studio when I learned my first dance combination, developed as a junior dance teacher under Marie’s watchful guidance, and then translated into successes in other areas of my life.
At Marie’s studio I had a safe and creative place where I could push myself outside of my comfort zone. When I fell, she encouraged me to get back up. When I got frustrated, she helped me see beyond it, and most importantly, when I achieved success she stopped to congratulate me, but then pushed me to achieve a new, more challenging goal.
Now, many years later, I still turn to dancing for stress relief, exercise, and a creative outlet. I have had some remarkable mentors in my life, but I credit Marie for turning me into the person I have become, the performer I still love to have around, and the doctor I am now.”

Miss Marie
Without you, I wouldn’t be me. And I am one of hundreds. You are such a great role model and tangible inspiration; fun, caring, honest, independent, talented and hardworking.
Marie,
Thanks to you I know that if there is something I want to accomplish I can, as long as I have enough determination, and work ethic. The lessons you taught me in dance have followed me through university.
Marie, To think it was 6 years ago that my Phys Ed teacher forced me to go to a workshop you were teaching, where that one “coffee grinder” dance move changed everything! It’s hard to imagine my life now without dance.
Marie, I have known you most of my life, and whether you realize it or not, you made a huge impact on me. Some of my most important decisions, hardest challenges faced, along with best moments lived – you were a part of.
Marie,
Thanks to you I know that if there is something I want to accomplish I can, as long as I have enough determination, and work ethic. The lessons you taught me in dance have followed me through university.
As a parent, I really appreciate the clear communication that I received from Steffen Dance. I feel no question is too small and that the staff truly care about my child.
“I started dancing with Marie when I was 16, she knew I was interested in pursuing musical theatre and dance was not my strong suit. She went out of her way to make sure I knew the importance of dance for a performer. Although I was less experienced than everyone else, I developed a love for dance very quickly. Marie was always very encouraging, she continued to support all of her dancers and helped develop life long friendships between all of us.
I’ve just graduated with honours from Sheridan College’s prestigious Musical Theatre Program. Marie was a huge influence on my admittance into the program, she not only made me a more confident dancer but prepared me for the business. I have had the opportunity to work with many choreographers while at Sheridan, I’ve heard many times that my determination and drive is extremely impressive despite my imperfect technique.
Marie taught me technique will come with practice but the most important thing about dance is the love and commitment that you bring to your performance.
This September I will be staring as Mary in Mary Poppins with Theatre St. John’s. I will also be playing Eponine in MV Theatre’s production of Les Miserables in February 2014 at the St. John’s Arts and Culture Centre. Marie Steffen has been such a positive influence on my career in performing and opened my eyes to so many different opportunities. Thank you Marie! XO”

“I knew the very first day I met you I knew that you would be a positive influence in my sons life. Your enthusiasm, dedication and desire to get the very best from your students stood out. Without your direction, advice, professionalism, and friendship our lives could have easily taken a different route.”
