Dance Classes

Mommy and Me Dance

Age 18 months-2 years

A wonderful introductory class for our youngest students to learn the fundamentals and joys of dance. Guided by a qualified instructor, the caregiver and student enjoys the use of hoops, scarves, baskets, bubbles, stuffies, and song all within an imaginative structure. The music is fun and familiar. The class focuses on the children’s natural movements, leaping, jumping, rolling, “flying” etc. The children also learn about speed, levels and emotions, and of course skills such as listening and sharing.

Little Steps 1 Dance

Age 3

The class focuses on the children’s natural movements, yet also starts to incorporate basic ballet technique. The aim, though, is very much to teach the children about the structure of a dance class. Students grow in independence with the support of their qualified instructor and trained teaching assistants, while parents stay outside and watch through the observation windows. Children are encouraged to stay in the studio (however we totally understand that sometimes a hug is needed!). Children learn about taking turns following a leader, listening to a teacher etc. We continue to use props to maintain dancers’ excitement and interest through imaginative activities. We balance the class between free movement, instructional movement, play and imagination.

Little Steps 2 Dance

Age 4

We continue to develop on lessons taught in the level 1 class (It is not necessary for a student wishing to join level 2 to have done the level 1). We continue to use props to maintain dancers’ excitement and interest through imaginative activities.

We continue to balance the class between free movement, play and imagination but increase the time spent on technical movement and increase the use of dance terminology. Building on the fundamentals of the Little Steps program, we offer a number of combo classes (Ballet/Jazz, Ballet/Tap, hip hop) for the 5-8 group as well as Ballet classes, modern, hip hop and Jazz classes for those 7+.
